Washington: The US Think Tank 'Pew Research Center' based in Washington has conducted studies on various religions in India and released its report. According to research by Pew, India's population is diverse and has great faith in religion. Most Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs in the world live in India, but at the same time, they are also one of the most Muslim populated countries in the world. The population of Buddhists and Christians is also in the millions. According to Pew Research Center, they conducted a survey of 29,999 Indians in 2019-20 before the corona crisis, studying nationalism, religious faith, and tolerance.

A survey was conducted by local level people in 17 languages in all the States and Union Territories of India. It found that the people of India are religiously tolerant, but they prefer to live their religious life separately. According to research, 84 percent described themselves as "true Indians" and spoke of respect for all religions, while 80 percent said that being a part of their religion is as important as respecting other religions. People of 6 religions said that they perform their religious activities in India freely. Most reported that people of other religions also perform religious activities that come here with complete freedom. The survey claims that 85 percent of Hindus believed that a true Indian respected all religions, while 78% of Muslims said this.

64% of Hindus said that being a true citizen of India requires Hinduism and 80 percent of them said that the Hindi language is also necessary for this. 72% of Hindus said that a person who eats beef cannot be a Hindu. The research found that cows are considered sacred by Hindus. According to research by Pew Research Center, 74% of Muslims said Muslims should go to the sharia court of their religion. Since 1937, India has had a separate judicial system to deal with religious matters for Muslims, called 'Darul-ul-Qaza.' No one can be legally compelled to accept the verdict of these courts working under Kazi.
