New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the regional conference today, July 17,  on ‘Drugs Smuggling and National Security’ in Delhi.

During the meet, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) collaborated with Anti-Narcotics Task Forces (ANTFs) from all states to annihilate narcotics valued at Rs 2,416 crore, amounting to over 1,44,000 kilograms. The Home Minister himself witnessed the destruction.

This significant operation pushed the cumulative quantity of drugs obliterated in a year to a staggering 10 lakh kilograms, with an approximate value of Rs 12,000 crore. Among the drugs destroyed were 6,590 kilograms by NCB's Hyderabad unit, 822 kilograms by Indore, and 356 kilograms by Jammu. Various law enforcement agencies across different states also contributed to this feat, collectively eliminating 1,44,122 kilograms of drugs. 
Notable contributions include 1,486 kilograms in Assam, 229 kilograms in Chandigarh, 25 kilograms in Goa, 4,277 kilograms in Gujarat, 2,458 kilograms in Haryana, 4,069 kilograms in Jammu and Kashmir, 1,03,884 kilograms in Madhya Pradesh, 159 kilograms in Maharashtra, 1,803 kilograms in Tripura, and 4,049 kilograms in Uttar Pradesh.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has adopted a 'Zero Tolerance' policy against narcotics, aiming to establish a drug-free India. Since June 1, 2022, until July 15 of the current year, the regional units of NCB and ANTFs of all states have jointly eradicated approximately 8,76,554 kilograms of seized drugs, valued at around Rs 9,580 crore. This surpasses the target by more than 11 times.

The MHA affirmed its commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a drugs-free India, stating that the campaign to destroy drugs will persist with unwavering determination.
