PUDUCHERRY: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Puducherry on April 24 for a series of events. According to BJP sources, the visit is aimed primarily at resolving issues between Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and BJP legislators.

There have been conflicts between the two parties in the Union Territory since the coalition administration of the All India NR Congress (AINRC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) into office. While the chief minister is upset that the BJP made a unilateral choice on the three nominated MLAs, the saffron party claims Rangasamy was recovering from Covid-19 at a private hospital in Chennai at the time.

The fact that Rangasamy did not visit New Delhi to meet with the Prime Minister, Home Minister, or Finance Minister has raised questions about the two parties' relationship.

B.L. Santosh, the BJP's national general secretary (Organisation), recently visited a conference of BJP MPs and gained firsthand knowledge of the situation in Puducherry.  In a meeting with BJP local leaders, the BJP national secretary in charge of the Union Territory, Nirmal Kumar Surana, announced that the party would run alone in the next civic body elections. Santosh's travel to the Union Territory coincided with his announcement.

Because the territorial government was unclear about the Central support, Chief Minister Rangasamy, who is also the state's Finance Minister, did not deliver his budget to the Assembly. On March 30, 2022, the Chief Minister delivered a vote on account instead of a full budget for the next five months.
