NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has tabled a bill to abolish Section 370 granting special state status to Jammu and Kashmir. Presenting the resolution in the Rajya Sabha, Amit Shah said, Section 370 will not remain in force after the President's assent. The Modi government has taken a major decision in the Cabinet meeting, putting a halt to the drag, uncertainty and speculations that have been going on for the last 10 days on Jammu and Kashmir.
The Modi government has announced the removal of Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. Home Minister Amit Shah has briefed the Rajya Sabha on the decision taken by the Modi government's cabinet. Modi government's announcement that under Article 370 had given special status to Jammu and Kashmir, it would be over and Jammu and Kashmir would be a normal state like other regions of India.
Presenting the bill, Amit Shah said in the Rajya Sabha that after the signature of President Ram Nath Kovind, all sections of Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir will be dismissed. However, the Home Minister also said that only one clause of Section 370 will remain in force in Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, the entire opposition is protesting against the Modi government's decision.
