New Delhi: The Southern Zonal Council (SZC) meeting, scheduled for November 14 in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, is expected to be chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, according to officials. The Lieutenant Governors of the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar, Puducherry, and the Administrator of Puducherry will also attend the meeting. Some senior Cabinet ministers are expected to attend the day-long meeting, which will take place at the Hotel Taj in Tirupati.

The much-anticipated conclave of dignitaries from southern states, which will include Chief Ministers from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, will be presided over by Home Minister Shah. At the Southern Zonal Council (SZC) meeting, Andhra Pradesh is expected to raise the issue of Special Category Status (SCS).

Apart from the Special Category Status issue, the State will also raise concerns about unpaid dues from the Centre and neighbouring states. It was also decided to bring the Jurala project on the Krishna in neighbouring Telangana under the purview of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), as well as a discussion on the Centre's proposal of interlinking rivers, to the table.
