New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said on Tuesday that the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits is a top priority of the Modi government. Amit Shah assured Kashmiri Pandits of phased resettlement amidst adequate security in the valley, from where they were forced to flee their homes in the late 1989 and early 1990s by Islamic militants. The minister gave this assurance to the delegation of seven-member Kashmiri Pandits, who met him at his residence for an hour at around 12:30 pm.

The delegation also included Surinder Kaul, International Coordinator of the Global Kashmiri Pandit Diaspora (GKPD). Also present were GKPD India coordinator Utpal Kaul, Anil Kachroo from GKPD USA, Taj Tiku, President of All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), Jammu and Kashmir Vichar Manch (JKVM) President Dilip Mattoo and AJKVM members Sanjay Ganjhu and Parikshit Kaul. Utpal Kaul told the media that, the minister has promised to resettle all Kashmiri Pandits in their respective districts.

He also assured that the resettlement process would be completed in various stages with complete security arrangements. "Kaul said that Home Minister Amit Shah has also assured the delegation that the Kashmiri Pandits' age limit for government jobs has been increased to 50 years. Will be given and the government will help in getting back their encroached properties in the valley. Kaul quoted Shah as saying, "All the temples of the valley will be renovated "
