Lucknow: The party is now on high alert after 8 MLAs, including two ministers, resigned from the BJP ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP has started efforts for damage control amid rumours about Apna Dal leader Anupriya Patel and Nishad Party's Sanjay Nishad. Union Home Minister Amit Shah himself met Sanjay Nishad and Anupriya Patel on Wednesday evening to discuss seat sharing.

Not only that, Amit Shah is scheduled to meet the leaders once again on Thursday evening. After the meeting, the seats of both the parties in the alliance are likely to be fixed and announced in Lucknow on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti on January 14. According to BJP sources, the Nishad Party had sought 15 to 18 seats. Nishad Party is likely to be given 15 seats after a long meeting with Amit Shah.

Nishad Party leader Sanjay Nishad himself has also said that he can field candidates in 15 seats. However, it is being said that some BJP candidates may also enter the fray on the Nishad Party symbol. In the same meeting, It has been agreed to give 15 seats to Anupriya Patel's own party. However, their demand was much higher than that of 35 to 30 seats. Earlier in 2017, Apna Dal was given 11 seats in alliance with BJP and out of that party had won 9.
