New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has arrived in Srinagar on Saturday on a three-day visit to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. On the first day of the tour, Amit Shah will launch the first direct international flight between Srinagar in the state and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. This is Amit Shah's first visit to Jammu and Kashmir since the repeal of Section 370 of the Constitution in August 2019.

Earlier, Amit Shah had visited Jammu and Kashmir just after becoming a home minister in 2019. During that visit, Shah had taken stock of the security preparedness for the Amarnath Yatra. At the same time, he had obtained information about several central schemes released in Jammu and Kashmir. In August 2019, the eastern state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. This is the home minister's first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after this partition.

Amit Shah will lead a security review meeting in Srinagar and also hold discussions with the youth of Jammu and Kashmir's youth club on Saturday. Security has been beefed up in Srinagar ahead of the Home Minister's visit to the Union Territory. Traffic has been diverted at several places in Jammu and Kashmir, two-wheelers and four-wheelers are being searched thoroughly. In fact, Amit Shah's visit comes at a time when terrorists have recently killed several non-Kashmiri people in the Valley.
