New Delhi:  Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 2,414 crore in Mizoram on April 1.

Inauguration of the Assam Rifles Battallion Headquarters Complex Zokhawsang, valued at Rs 163 crore, and Building of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) under Smart City Limited (ASCL), valued at Rs 119.2 crore, are two of these projects.

Relocation of the Assam Rifles from the heart of Aizawl city was one of the key commitments of the Mizo National Front since the early 1990s.

The programme will be attended by several high officials from both the federal and state governments. The district administration has finished making arrangements for the Union Home Minister's arrival.

In a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit last week, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga thanked him for keeping his pledge to officially open the Assam Rifles Battallion Complex in Zokhawsang and lay the cornerstone for the Laldenga Culture Center.

Laldenga, the current Mizo National Front (MNF) creator, oversaw a cessationist struggle for 20 years, from 1966 to 1986. Once Mizoram attained independence in 1987, he became the first chief minister of the new nation.
