CHANDIGARH: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a day-long visit to Chandigarh where he would open a conference on drug trafficking and national security, official said.

Besides Shah, the chief ministers of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, the lieutenant governor of Jammu & Kashmir,  and the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, will speak at the national conference.

An official announcement states that teams from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Delhi, Chennai, Guwahati, and Kolkata will burn and dispose of more than 30,000 kg of drugs during the conference. According to a press statement, the NCB launched its drug disposal campaign on June 1 and has since disposed of over 51,217 kg of drugs in 11 states.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Independence, the NCB pledged to burn 75,000 kg of drugs as part of the "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebrations.

Shah will meet with the chief ministers of Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, governor and union territory administrator of Punjab, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, and the chief secretaries and directors general of police of those states. after the conference.

He will proceed to a ceremony at Mauli Jagran in the evening to inaugurate three government schools. Shah will attend the "Har Ghar Tiranga" and "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebrations at Sukhna Lake after dinner at the Punjab Raj Bhawan, then depart for New Delhi.

The District Courts Complex in Sector 43 will have multi-level parking built during the Union Home Minister's visit, according to officials. Shah will be in Chandigarh on Saturday for the second time in the past four months. On his earlier visit to Chandigarh on March 27, he hade inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of several projects.
