Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Meghalaya on January 23. Shah is likely to discuss the issue of delay in implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
Shah is likely to chair the many meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) to be held in Shillong. Notably, the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government has decided to seek Home Minister’s intervention for the Centre’s approval to the resolution adopted by the Meghalaya Assembly for implementation of ILP in the State. Sharing information about Shah's visit, Sangma said, “If Home Minister Amit Shah visits Meghalaya, we will meet him in Shillong." However, Chief Minister also added that if the visit of The Union Home Minister gets cancelled, he would visit New Delhi and take up the matter with him.
It has been over a year now that the Meghalaya Assembly had adopted a resolution for implementing ILP regime in the State. Delay in the grant of ILP to the State by the Centre has once again raised apprehension amongst various pressure groups in the state.
