Dehradun: Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Uttarakhand this evening. Review meeting of relief rescue operations to be held. Officials of all agencies will be present along with the NDRF. The present situation will be monitored, the Centre has also promised all possible assistance to the State Government. He will hold a meeting with the Chief Minister, Uttarakhand officials, ITBP and NDRF officials late in the evening. Tomorrow, an aerial survey of flood-affected areas of the State will be conducted and an inspection of the damage caused by rain and landslides.

In Uttarakhand, the rains caused havoc in the Kumaon division. So far, 42 persons have lost their lives in this disaster. The highest number of 29 persons are from the Nainital district. Kali, Gori, Saryu, Gomti, Sharda, Kosi and Gaula rivers are in spate due to rain. In Kumaon, 92 state highways including six highways are closed. Relief and rescue operations are in the on. CM Dhami conducted an aerial survey of the rain-affected areas and interacted with the affected persons to assess the damage. He also announced a compensation of 4 lakh rupees each to the next of kin of those killed in rain-related incidents in the state in the last two days.

At the same time, PM Narendra Modi also interacted with Dhami over the phone and took stock of the situation and assured all possible help. Director-General of Police Ashok Kumar, who along with CM Pushkar Singh Dhami visited rain-affected areas in the Kumaon area, said that roads, bridges and railway tracks have been damaged at Kathgodam and Lalkuan in Nainital and Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar. Kumar said it will take at least four to five days to repair the damaged tracks.
