Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday slammed the international group along with left-wing media for defaming the Modi government on the Pegasus report. CM Sarma said, "Some media outlets have said that some people are being identified and spied on, but they cannot confirm whether their privacy was compromised. What kind of journalism is this? Why are Amnesty International and some other international groups plotting to defame Indian democracy and the Modi government?"

CM Himanta Sarma shared a video on his Twitter handle. In the video, CM Himanta said, "Amnesty International has a long history of defaming Indian democracy and conspiring against the government here. I strongly condemn this conspiracy and demand the Modi government to ban the activities of organizations that are bent on defaming and harming our country.''

On the Pegasus report, Assam CM Sarma said, "I urge the Government of India to ban the functioning of Amnesty International in the country. I think the Congress party should also join hands with the Central Government against Amnesty International. They cannot defame our country like this all the time.''
