Ampere Vehicles, a Greaves Cotton subsidiary, recently announced the launch of a new electric scooter -- Ampere Zeal. The latest vehicle to join Ampere's stable in India, the Zeal e-scooter is FAME II approved and has also received a subsidy of ₹18,000 under the scheme. This has brought down the new electric scooter's price to ₹69,962 (ex-showroom, Delhi) from the earlier ex-showroom price of ₹87,862.

Mr Nagesh Basavanhalli, chief executive officer and managing director, Greaves Cotton, said, "Ampere Vehicles known for technical ingenuity combined with Greaves retail scale and efficiency has resulted in successful growth over the last year. Today, we are complete EV ecosystem player with comprehensive offering of products, services & aftermarket support. We remain committed in bringing about transformation in how people access and experience next generation mobility solutions."
As noted by Ampere, the Zeal is a high-speed scooter that makes use of a lithium-ion battery pack. This battery offers a range of 75 km on a single charge and takes 5.5 hours to charge to 100 per cent. But to further optimize the battery range, the scooter gets two riding modes -- economy and power -- which adjust the power output accordingly. The scooter has a top speed of 55 km/h and can go from 0 to 50 km/h in 14 seconds.
Ampere Vehicles said that with the launch of Zeal, it will focus on last mile connectivity solutions by replacing fuel-propelled scooters with electric ones. The company offers several electric scooters in India, such as Ampere V48, Reo, and Magnus. Besides e-scooters, the brand also makes electric vehicles for industrial use.
