The state has progressed a lot and has been able to raise production of cereals, an output of horticulture, livestock, milk. Overall, horticulture and milk production have increased by 69 percent over the time span of 6-7years. Vegetable production in the state has risen from 3.6 million metric tonnes in 2010-11 to 14.2 million tonnes in 2013-14. Hence, it has notched up the forth rank in being the largest producers of the country.

But this progress has come back hitting the state’s government.

The bumper harvest has no proper storage facilities and processing facilities, rendering farmers with scanty prices for their abundant production.

The disrupting thing is that the prices are falling whereas, in such a peak season of summers, the prices of fruits and vegetables must be soaring high.

The condition is soo repulsive that the state government is being forced to buy onion and pulses from farmers, same goes for milk.

In consequence, the farmers have been dumping gallons of litres of milk on the streets or vandalizing milk processing units.

The farmers have already suffered loss in cotton and soyabean, adding fuel to the fire, they couldn’t even get commensurate prices for their harvest in summers thus demanding for relief packages and loan waivers.

The protest is being led out by rich farmers from the most fertile Malwa-Nimar belt, if the rich farmers are facing hardships, tribal community’s condition is just unimaginable.
