Thiruvananthapuram: A Class 11 student assaulted his teacher after the latter questioned him for not wearing uniform to school. The incident was reported from Kattappana, Kerala and it is alleged that the student viciously attacked the geography teacher at Kumali government higher secondary school.

Such was the intensity of the attack that the teacher, identified as S Jayadev, had to be admitted to a private hospital. The accused student, 18-year-old Abin Suresh, has been arrested by the police after a complaint was filed against him. The incident occurred on Tuesday when Abin came to get the hall ticket without wearing his uniform. Moreover, it was said that he entered the classroom without the teacher’s permission. On being asked to behave, Abin slapped Jayadevan and in the assault, the teacher’s cheek and ear were injured.
The teacher also alleged that Abin had also punched Jayadevan in his stomach using an iron bangle. Upon hearing the commotion, other teachers in the nearby classrooms ran to the spot. They overpowered Abin and informed the police. He was later arrested by the cops and was taken for questioning.

This is not the first incident where a teacher has been assaulted by a student or vice versa, what needs to be addressed is that the growing violent attacks in schools might be an issue raising out of insensitive approach towards counselling or the simple lack of it.
