In Mumbai, a troubling case of fraud involving an elderly woman has come to light. According to the police, the 68-year-old tuition teacher received a friend request from an unknown person on Facebook. The woman accepted it, sparking a series of conversations.

The unknown person claimed to be a pilot with British Airways and soon informed the woman about sending her a gift. On May 30, the woman received a call from someone identifying herself as Diksha Aroda from Delhi Customs.

Money Transfer Under False Pretenses

Diksha Aroda informed the woman about a parcel in her name that had arrived, but to claim it, she needed to pay Rs 70,000. Using UPI, the victim transferred the money. Later, the woman was told the parcel contained 80 British pounds, an illegal act.

Coercion and Further Transfers

Aroda then demanded Rs 2.95 lakh from the victim, threatening police action if she didn't comply. Fearing arrest, the woman transferred a total of Rs 8.15 lakh between June 1 and June 10. The person claiming to be a British Airways pilot has not responded to the victim's messages or calls. The police have registered a case under Section 420 and initiated an investigation.
