New Delhi: Recently, 18 units of machines were working in a four-story building in Delhi Grain Mandi area on Sunday, not one or two, but equivalent to a large factory. The initial investigation by the crime branch team has revealed that there were five rooms on every floor of that building and almost every room had a unit of machines. More than a hundred people lived in the building at all times. After the post-mortem, the bodies of 40 of the 43 dead were handed over to their relatives by Tuesday evening.

According to information received from the sources, the crime branch also called the forensic team on the spot and got photo imaging of all the floors. Apart from this, 3D scanning of the first and second floors of the building was also done. Initial investigation revealed that the fire was first on the second-floor electricity meter and from there it started spreading towards the upper floors. During the investigation, police have not found the fireplace, heater, cylinder, and stove from any room. On the other hand, Rehan says that the employees must have held a party in the building on the night of the incident. Because of this, so many people were present there.

It has also been noted that the Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused to consider a petition seeking a judicial inquiry or CBI inquiry from a retired judge of the grain market fire. The court said that this is the initial stage of the investigation and the officers should be given enough time. A bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice C. Harishankar told the petitioner, Avadh Kaushik, that if there is a mistake in the investigation by the department concerned, after a specified time, he can again file a fresh petition for a judicial inquiry into the case.
