Indian boxer Anamika (50kg) stunned Romania's Eugenia Angel in her first match of the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships on Thursday in a scintillating display of skill and technical superiority. Anamika has won the pre-quarterfinal ticket by winning the unanimous decision of all the judges in the competition being played in Istanbul. At the start of the match, both the players hurled punches at each other but Anamika made her defense using superb footwork and counter-attacked the opponent.

The Rohtak boxer maintained her dominance in the second round as well and easily advanced to the next round after winning by a margin of 5-0. Anamika will next face Australia's Christie Lee Harris, world championship bronze medalist, on Sunday. Earlier on Wednesday, Sweety (75kg) lost 2-3 to England's Carrie Davies late in the evening.

Earlier it was reported that Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain is set to take on former champion Chen Nien-Chin on the first day of the 12th season of the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships, starting Monday in Istanbul. Indian boxers have got a mixed draw in the tournament with the Indian campaign set to begin with a match against Borgohain (70kg). Borgohain defeated Nien-Chin in the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics, but the Chinese Taipei boxer also claimed gold and bronze medals in the 2018 and 2016 seasons of the tournament, respectively.
