New Delhi: Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra was also on the list for the Padma Award this year. President Ram Nath Kovind was conferred the Padma Bhushan on Monday. Despite receiving this glorious honour, Anand Mahindra declared himself unfit. He said this through a tweet and in the same tweet explained why he believes so.
Anand Mahindra said in a tweet, "This government has made long pending, transformative changes regarding the nature of Padma Awardees. Now, the focus is mainly on individuals who have made a fundamental contribution to the reform of society at the grass-root level. I'm not really feeling qualified to join their category. '
He also posted in his tweet saying that Anand Mahindra has also shared a picture of Tulsi Gowda receiving the Padma Award. President Kovind had awarded Padma Shri to Karnataka environmentalist Tulsi Gowda for his social work. He has planted more than 30,000 plants and has been involved in environmental protection activities for the last six decades.

This Govt has made a long-overdue, transformational shift in the texture of the Padma Awards recipients. Now, the focus is largely on individuals making seminal contributions to the improvement of society at grassroots levels. I truly felt undeserving to be amongst their ranks. https://t.co/jor34tqx1w
