Mumbai: Rain has wreaked havoc with it's arrival in Maharashtra. Yes, the southwest monsoon has hit Mumbai and its adjoining areas last Wednesday and heavy rains on the first day flooded several places in the country's financial capital and its suburbs. This affected normal life and disrupted road traffic as well as local train services. Now, amidst all this, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and neighbouring Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts warning of heavy rain at some places.
In fact, due to heavy rains, various parts of Mumbai have been inundated and due to this, traffic police had to close four subways. Meanwhile many drivers were forced to leave their vehicles on the roads. Local train services were also disrupted during this period which is only running for health and other essential services. Let me tell all of you that deputy commissioner of police (traffic) western suburb Somnath Gharge says, "We have closed four subways at some places due to waterlogging of up to two feet. However, traffic on SV Road, Linking Road and Western Express Highway is smooth.''
He also said, "Heavy rains have reduced visibility and increased the risk of accidents. Therefore, traffic police personnel have been deployed on the roads to prevent such incidents. Cranes are being used to remove vehicles stranded on the roads.''
