With only the last phase of 2019 Lok Sabha election remaining, Telugu Desam Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday met Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi. He is now scheduled to meet SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati later in the day in Lucknow over possible tie-up in the post-poll scenario.

The meetings are in line with his efforts to bring together all the Opposition parties together ahead of the meeting of the grand alliance - after the results of the elections are declared on May 23.

Naidu has already met Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and Aam Admi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal. After today's meeting, he's also likely to meet NCP leader Sharad Pawar, CPI secretary general Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, and Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) leader Sharad Yadav.

Notably, Chandrababu Naidu is not the only one trying to get the Opposition on the same plane, his Telangana counterpart, K Chandrashekar Rao has also been working towards his idea of a third front - that is a non-BJP, non-Congress Federal Front.

Meanwhile, Congress is in fix over senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad's comment that the party was not averse to have a leader from any regional party as prime minister if the NDA fails to form a government. Azad made a U-turn on his comments soon after.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections will conclude on May 19 and the counting of votes will be done on May 23.
