TIRUPATI: The Andhra Pradesh government has announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the families of those who tragically died in the stampede that occurred at the Vaikuntha Ekadashi Darshan Token Issuance Center in Tirupati. The incident, which took place on Wednesday night, led to the loss of several lives and left many others injured.
In response, a team of government ministers visited the victims' families in Tirupati to offer their condolences and assure them of the state's support. Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Anitha confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine whether the stampede was caused by an accident or if there was any foul play involved. She emphasized that the authorities will use CCTV footage to identify any negligence, and strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible.
On Thursday morning, Home Minister Anitha, along with Revenue Minister Angani Satya Prasad and Endowments Minister Anam Rama Narayana Reddy, visited Ruia Hospital to inspect the bodies and meet with the grieving families. The ministers promised a thorough investigation into the incident and assured that action would be taken against any staff members found negligent. The CCTV footage from the token issuance centers is being reviewed as part of this investigation.
Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy expressed deep regret over the tragic incident that occurred during the sacred occasion of Vaikunta Ekadashi, calling it an unfortunate event. He emphasized that the exact cause of the stampede, whether stemming from hasty actions or inadequate coordination, would be thoroughly investigated. The Minister also assured that the bodies of the victims would be sent to their hometowns, and he urged the district collectors to provide all necessary support to ensure proper arrangements for the last rites. Andhra Pradesh Revenue Minister Anagani Satyaprasad has directed the collectors to follow through with these instructions promptly.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his sorrow over the incident, calling it "unfortunate." He assured the public that steps would be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future. The Chief Minister also extended his support to the victims' families, both in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and directed officials to visit the victims' hometowns to provide assistance. This announcement comes after the tragic loss of at least six lives and numerous injuries in the stampede near the Vaikuntha Dwara Darshan ticketing centers in Tirupati.
