Vizag:  Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL) has reached yet another landmark in coal transfer to Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd, transferring 6,08,706 metric tonne of coal through conveyors in August.  This is marked as the highest ever cargo transfer since the inception of the port. It has surpassed the old record of 5,67,888 MTs, which was achieved in April.

The port also discharged 26,885 MT fertiliser within 24 hours by using the MHCs (mobile harbour cranes), and surpassed the earlier record of 16,690 MT. Vessel MV Kmax Emperor, carrying 64,575 MT urea berthed at the port on account of M/S IPL, said the press statement issued on Tuesday by the port authority.

The statement also said that the port also achieved a record in iron ore pellets loading by loading 46,700 MT of the cargo using the ship loader in a day surpassing its earlier record of 41,314 MT in a day.

According to the statement by the GPL executive director GJ Rao, the record cargo discharge of various commodities yet again reaffirmed the superior port infrastructure and operational efficiency. In previous years, GPL has handled numerous vessels with a broad spectrum of cargo, including coking/non-coking coal, iron ore, fertilizers, agri-products, project cargo, industrial raw materials like alumina and bauxite.
