Visakhapatnam: The Government of Andhra Pradesh has been in efforts to implement a liquor ban for quite some time. There has been a boom in the illegal liquor business and smuggling of liquor has started from other states. Now a large number of people are being kept in jail in cases related to illicit liquor. The Andhra Pradesh Government's Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), set up in May to arrest the illegal liquor business, arrested 43,976 people in 33,754 cases between May 16 and August 26. All these cases are related to smuggling of alcohol from neighbouring states, making illegal liquor.

YSR Congress Party had said "In the 2019 assembly elections that full prohibition will be implemented in the state. At that time Chief Minister Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy also said that he will make Andhra Pradesh a dry state in 2024". In the same sequence, in the month of October, the state government cancelled the licenses of all liquor shops. Apart from this, you must be seeing that the government has gradually reduced the number of liquor shops from 4,380 to 2,934, which is a big success.

A total of 43,000 shops have been closed so far. All those shops are called belt shops. By the way, a 75 % increase in the prices of alcohol has also been filed. Apart from this, the state government has plans to establish several de-addiction centres in Andhra Pradesh which will start soon.
