The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested TDP leader Atchannadu in the case of alleged irregularities in Employees' State Insurance (ESI) amid lockdown and corona infection. Sources said that late Yaram Naidu's brother Atchannadu was arrested by the ACB on Friday morning from his residence in the ESI scam. The Vigilance and Enforcement Department of Andhra Pradesh claimed in February that between 2014 and 2019, when the Telugu Desam Party was in power, a Rs 404.86 crore scam was committed in the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Corporation.

For your information, let us tell you that Atchanidanu had denied any wrongdoing during his tenure and claimed that he has only implemented the instructions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He then made sure that all the relevant records were available, the former minister said that he was ready to face any investigation.

The Vigilance Department said that the three directors were the kingpins of the procurement scam at ESI, where gross irregularities in procurement of drugs, lab kits, surgical items and furniture took place between 2014-15 and 2018-19, leading to the scam. This resulted in a loss of more than Rs 151 crore to the state exchequer. At the same time, out of the total purchase of Rs 975.79 crore made during this period, the three directors along with other employees violated all the procedures and guidelines of the government and ESIC and the government exchequer has suffered heavy losses. Also, the report stated that the total budget allocation for the purchase of drugs and medicines during his tenure was Rs 293.51 crore, but he made a purchase of Rs 698.36 crore in violation of procedural guidelines, which was more than Rs 404.86 crore. .
