Visakhapatnam: Tribals in a village in Andhra Pradesh waited for a road for years. Governments changes but no development work took place in tribal villages. Eventually, the tribals of Chintamala made up their mind to be 'self-sufficient' and decided to build a road on their own.

The poor tribals of Kodama Panchayat of Saluru Mandal have deposited an amount of 6 lakh rupees themselves and have set out to construct a 3.5 km long road. Kodama Panchayat is a village of 150 families located on the border of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. During the rainy days this village gets cut off from the rest of India and during this time, if there is a medical emergency, then a big problem arises for them.

In normal days, the people here travel five kilometres using the forest-covered hills, then reach the main road nearby and catch a train to go to other places including the district headquarters. In such a situation, if a pregnant woman has to be taken to the hospital, or if there is a need to take a sick person to the hospital, then it becomes difficult for them to even get an ambulance on time.
