Port Blair: Only one new case of corona infection has occurred in the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the last 24 hours, raising the number of infected people to 7,540. A health department official has informed in this regard. The official said three more people have recovered from corona infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoverers in the state to 7,408. There are currently only four active COVID-19 cases in the archipelago and all four patients are in the south Andaman district. The official said the other two districts of the state north and central Andaman and Nicobar are now corona free.
In the union territory, no one has died of the infection in the last 24 hours and the death toll remains at 129. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration has so far examined 4,44,838 samples and the infection rate is 1.69 percent. He explained that a total of 2,99,005 people have been vaccinated, of which 2,04,558 have been given the first dose and 94,447 have been given both doses. He said the total population of the Union Territory is about four lakh.
The report released on Wednesday reported 42,625 new corona cases of corona in the country and 562 infected people have died. In the last 24 hours, 36,667 patients have recovered. With the latest cases, the total number of cases of people infected with the virus across the country has gone up to 3,17,69,132. The number of active cases was recorded at 4,10,353. The number of recoverers, i.e., recover cases, was recorded at 3,09,33,022 and the total number of deaths was recorded at 4,25,757.
