Port Blair: The number of infected people in the Union Territory has increased to 7,131 after 12 new cases of corona infection were reported in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Meanwhile, the death toll reached to 123 after another person died of infection. A health department official said on Tuesday that nine of the new cases were found to be infected in order to identify people exposed to infected people and three were found infected at the airport.

State that all passengers arriving by flight in the Union Territory are given mandatory rapid antigen checks and only then are allowed out. He said that after the recovery of 18 more people, the number of people who were free from infection in the Union Territory increased to 6,912. In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 96 people are currently undergoing treatment for corona virus infection. Out of these, 91 are undergoing treatment in South Andaman district and five in North and Central Andaman districts. There is no case of infection in Nicobar district. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration has so far tested more than 3,91,273 lakh samples of Covid-19. The infected rate of samples is 1.82 percent.

The official said that the population of the Union Territory is about four lakh and so far 1,11,013 people have been given the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and 17,399 people have been given the second dose of vaccine. Meanwhile, Information, Publicity and Tourism Secretary SK Singh had announced on Monday that the administration is extending lockdown in the Union Territory till June 14.
