Angry Birds Review: Enjoyable, but nothing extraordinary

The movie plot goes something like this : The main character, Red (Jason Sudeikis), is truly an angry bird: He tries to exist in polite society, but his bad attitude doesn't let him, and eventually he's forced into anger-management class.

The movie has plenty of scenes of birds being kicked, punched, and hurled through the air, as well as explosions. Eggs are stolen from their parent birds and put in peril, and their parents are visibly upset. There's also some drinking (out of coconuts, etc.) and few sexual situations (which will likely go over many kids' heads).

Still, for a movie based on an app, ANGRY BIRDS has a lot of story to it. You'll learn why the birds are so angry and what led to their ongoing war with the green pigs. It takes a while to get to that war, but once it does, the movie has plenty of action.

The animated world that's been created is fun to look at, and there are some funny scenes. However, debutant directors Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly have done a brilliant job of adding life to the characters with impressive visuals and 3D.

The birds are cute, but an unambitious storytelling sans twists and turns, makes this bird-watching unexciting if not tedious. The screenplay lacks depth and so does the conflict between characters. All in all, if you have played the game, THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE will be a fun watch, while for those who haven't, they can still enjoy stellar animated visuals.
