The Janta Dal United (JDU) announced Anil Hegde as their candidate for the Bihar bye-election on Monday. On May 30, a by-election will be held.

In Bihar, a by-election is being held for one Rajya Sabha seat that became vacant after Janata Dal United (JDU) MP Mahendra Prasad died on December 27. Mahendra Prasad, better known to his admirers as King Mahendra, was elected to the Rajya Sabha for the eighth time as a candidate of several political parties. In 2018, he was elected as a JDU member to the Rajya Sabha.

Anil Hegde belonging to Mangalore, Karnataka. He is connected to Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar. Anil Hegde, a senior JDU leader said that he is a humble and organised man who has been working with the party for decades and is currently residing in Patna and striving to build the party's organisation.

"When former party president Sharad Yadav and Nitish Kumar clashed over organisational issues, Hegde stood firm behind the chief minister," the JDU leader noted. The by-election notification will be released on May 12th, according to the Election Commission. The deadline to submit nominations is May 19. The polls will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on May 30. After the polls close, the votes will be counted on the same day.
