New Delhi: Anjali Devi, a female runner from Haryana, has won the gold medal in the women's 400-meter race. Despite the injury, she won the medal in the 59th National Inter-State Athletics Championships. Anjali beat Gujarat's Sarita Gayakwad (52.96 seconds) and Kerala's Jisna Mathew (53.08 seconds) with a personal best of 51.53 seconds.

Anjali has already qualified for the World Championship with the run time of 51.79 seconds at the National Open Athletics in Bhubaneswar in September last year. The qualifying level of the World Championship for women's 400 meters is 51 .80 seconds. Anjali is the only Indian to achieve the qualifying level so far in this event.

Anjali, who is returning after an ankle injury, said after winning the gold medal, "I knew that I would have to do my best in the finals because of not participating any in a competitive race since the Federation Cup (in March)."On the third day of the four-day competition, officials of the National Anti-Doping Agency arrived to collect dope samples of the players. In the first two days, there was speculation that the National Anti-Doping Agency might not send anyone to take samples during the championship.
