Ankur Mittal won the men’s double trap historic gold medal in the ongoing ISSF World Championship here on Saturday. This is his career’s biggest victory. The Indian shooting team continued its dominance in the leading tournament.

The 26-year-old Ankur who is multiple World Cup medalists shot 140 out of 150 to claim a shoot-off for gold with China’s Yiyang Yang and Slovakia’s Hubert Andrzej. Ankur beat the Chinese Yang 4-3 to emerge victorious. The Slovakian had missed his second shoot-off clay target and he settled for bronze.

Ankur also clinched the team bronze in the event along with compatriots Md. Asab and Shardul Vihaan. Their tally of 409 points put them for only one point behind with arch rival silver winning China who scored 410. The gold winning team Italy’s had finished with tally of 411.

Talking about other events of the day so two Indian women missed out on the finals of their respective events by the smallest margins.

Anjum Moudgil has already won silver here in 10m air rifle; shot 1170 in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions qualifying round to finish for ninth spot. He grabbed the spot for a 2020 Olympic for India.

Rajyavardhan Rathore took official Twitter handle to greet the Ankur Mittal, Shardul Vihan and Mohd. Asab as saying, “Many Congratulations to Ankur Mittal, Shardul Vihan and Mohd. Asab on their BRONZE Medal winning performance in Double Trap Men Team at the @ISSF_Shooting World Championships in Changwon. Keep the medals coming Champs”.
