NEW DELHI: Social activist Anna Hazare on Tuesday accused the Union government of betraying Indian citizens through the move. On Monday, the Lok Sabha amended the RTI Act, which provides for the Bill that the salaries, allowances and other terms and conditions of service of the Chief Information Commissioners and Information Commissioners and state information commissioners will be decided by the Central Government.

"India got the RTI Act in 2005, but this amendment to the RTI Act is cheating the people of this country," Anna said. The 82-year-old Hazare said his health is not good but he is ready to stand by the people of the country if they come to the streets to protect the sanctity of the RTI Act. "While drafting a law, it is expected that the government will take a public opinion.

If both the draft and the law are to be made by the Government, it is not a democracy but dictatorship. Social activist Anna Hazare was speaking to the media in his village Ralegan Siddi. The Maharashtra government had enacted the Maharashtra Right to Information Act, 2005, which is considered the basis of the Right to Information Act, 2005, following the agitation of Hazare.
