Mumbai: In a telephonic conversation, Ranjitsinh Mohite-Patil, son of senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Vijaysinh Mohite Patil is slated to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Mohite-Patil confirmed the development. Talking to Source, Mohite-Patil said that the father-son duo is 'disappointed' with NCP. Ranjitsinh Mohite-Patil said during the interview "My father had initiated an irrigation project in our area when my father was deputy chief minister, but nothing was done. We have had disappointment from top NCP leadership. CM Fadnavisji has assured me with support and I am joining them,".

Here it is to be noted that the development comes as a massive jolt to the Congress-NCP combine in Maharashtra, where NCP chief Sharad Pawar has already declared that he won't be contesting the general elections. Mohite-Patil, however, further added that the NCP chief's decision to not contest Lok Sabha poll 2019, was 'not linked' to his decision to join the BJP. "Can't say that Sharad Pawar decided not to contest elections because of us joining BJP," he said, adding that his induction into the BJP will take place at 2 pm in presence of Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and other senior BJP leaders. The 48-seater state is crucial for the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance as well as for Congress- NCP combine. While the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance has already announced 23:25 seat sharing, Congress-NCP combine has closed the deal at 26: 22 seats.

According to multiple media reports, Ranjitsinh Mohite-Patil's decision to join the BJP was agreed to by his father Vijaysinh Mohite Patil, an NCP stalwart who is a party MP from Madha constituency in Maharashtra, from where Pawar had announced his candidature before withdrawing it later. This is the second significant loss to the Congress-NCP combine, which lost Sujay Vikhe Patil, the son of Maharashtra Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil to the BJP a few days ago. In response, Vikhe-Patil tendered his resignation to Congress president Rahul Gandhi on moral grounds.
