New Delhi: Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and its partner Canadian biotech company 'Sanitize Research' on Wednesday launched a nitrous oxide nasal spray (a drug taken through the nose) for the treatment of corona-positive adults. This spray is for adults who are more prone to be seriously ill when they are positive. In India, this drug has been launched in the market under the name of 'FabiSpray.'

Earlier, Glenmark, a company operating from Mumbai, had obtained permission from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for the production and sale of Nitric Oxide Nasal Spray. Fabispray is designed to eliminate the infection of corona inside the nose so that it cannot reach the lungs. Glenmark has received quick approval from the Drug Regulator of India, The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for manufacturing and marketing the nitric oxide nasal spray rapid approval process.

An official statement from the company said, "Nasal Spray has completed the major endpoints of the phase III trial in India and has successfully demonstrated in reducing the viral load by 94 per cent in 24 hours and by 99 per cent in 48 hours. Due to the test, nitric oxide nasal spray (NONS) was safe and well-tolerated in corona patients. Glenmark will market it under the brand name FabiSpray." The same company claims that when nitric oxide nasal is sprayed on the nasal mucosa, it acts as a physical and chemical barrier against infection.
