AKOLA: In the wake of the recent Badlapur school sexual assault case, a new incident has emerged from Akola district in Maharashtra. On August 21, police arrested Pramod Manohar Sardar, a teacher from Zilla Parishad School in Kajikhed, following complaints from six schoolgirls. The arrest was made under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the school's principal, Ravindra Samdur, the allegations came to light after a school event. He stated, "After a program at the school, the teacher met with students from classes 7 and 8. Some girls reported harassment, which is when we first became aware of the situation."
Superintendent of Police Akola, Bachchan Singh, confirmed that the police acted swiftly upon receiving the complaint. "We received a report of molestation involving six girls. We arrested Pramod Manohar Sardar and recorded the victims' statements immediately," Singh said.
The case involves sections 74 and 75 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita along with the POCSO Act. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
This case follows the Badlapur incident, which recently led to widespread protests in Maharashtra. Demonstrators had blocked train tracks at Badlapur railway station, demanding action against the alleged assault of two four-year-old girls by a sweeper. The attack took place on August 12-13 in a school washroom that lacked female supervision, according to school authorities.
