Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state secretary and former Vidhan Nagar municipality mayor Sabyasachi Dutta has returned home to Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday, putting an end to all speculation. Dutta has 'returned home' two years after he left TMC for the BJP.

Dutta raised the party flag from state commerce and industry minister Partha Chatterjee in his chamber of the assembly, which is just yards from the Central Hall, where CM Mamata Banerjee was sworn in as MLA a few minutes ago. State Transport Minister Firhad Hakim was also present on the occasion. Talking to the media after the function, Dutta said, "Apart from serving as mayor of Vidhan Nagar Municipal Corporation, I was MLA from 2011 to 2021 and all this was possible only because of Mamata Banerjee. I cannot deny that I left TMC because of some misunderstanding.''

He further said, "I wanted to come back and CM Mamata has accepted me. I will act the way the party wants it.'' Tell you that Dutta joined the BJP (BJP) in October 2019 and contested the assembly elections from Vidhan Nagar earlier this year but was defeated by Trinamool's Sujit Bose.
