KABUL: At least five people were killed on Friday when a tremor struck Afghanistan's Paktika province, where a massive earthquake had claimed 1,100 lives earlier this week, Authorities said.
"Unfortunately, an earthquake struck Gayan district of Paktika province around 10 a.m. on Friday, according to preliminary information, five people were killed and 11 others were injured," the Ministry of Public Health said in a tweet, according to Xinhua report.
The 5.9-magnitude earthquake, the deadliest in two decades, struck the districts of Gayan and Barmal early Wednesday. As a result, 1,600 people were injured.
The epicentre was 44 kilometres from Khost city, with tremors felt as far away as Pakistan and India. In the worst-affected Gayan district, over 1,600 homes were destroyed.
