Kanpur: One more Zika virus case has been reported in Kanpur, bringing the total number of cases to 11. Dr Nepal Singh, Kanpur's Chief Medical Officer (CMO), said pathology samples from a 42-year-old woman from Shiv Katra sent to the KGMU lab in Lucknow and the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune on Monday tested positive for the virus. So far, 11 people have tested positive for the infection, including three IAF personnel from the Chakeri area.

The asymptomatic woman's sample was taken and sent for testing by the surveillance team. She's been kept under constant surveillance. On Tuesday, samples from her relatives, friends, and acquaintances will be taken. Surveillance teams in the area will also apply anti-larva spray, clean up, and fog the area, the  CMO stated.

Meanwhile, 65 surveillance teams of health, civic, paramedical, and local administration personnel conducted a house-to-house survey in the affected areas, including the IAF station, on Monday. The teams collected samples from 12 different locations in the Chakeri area, spread out over a 3 km radius. People with fever-like symptoms were also examined by the teams. "Our surveillance teams are also sensitising people about the dangers of stagnant water and asking them to empty pots, containers, and tanks filled with water," the CMO said, adding that "our surveillance teams are also sensitising people about the dangers of stagnant water and asking them to empty pots, containers, and tanks filled with water."
