LOS ANGELES: Antoine Fuqua will be directing the new Lionsgate biopic on Michael Jackson, which is set to begin shooting this year, internationally.

The controversial “King of Pop” singer died in 2009 at the age of 50.

The film will be produced by Graham King, who won an Oscar for "The Departed" (2006) and was nominated three times for "The Aviator" (2004), "Hugo" (2011), and "Bohemian Rhapsody" (2018), which won four Oscars, including best actor for Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in 2023.

The movie "Michael," which was written by "Skyfall" author John Logan, is said to provide viewers an in-depth, never-before-told portrait of the Grammy-winning singer who rose to fame as the King of Pop. All facets of Michael's life will be examined in the movie, including some of his most recognisable performances that helped him establish himself as the greatest entertainer of all time. Logan has accumulated three Oscar nominations for "Hugo," "The Aviator," and "Gladiator" from the 2000s.

"Antoine is a wise and talented director, and we are grateful that he has selected Michael as his upcoming project. Michael will be a memorable movie thanks to his imaginative narrative abilities and dedication to his art, according to Joe Drake, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group.
