Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia's Sultan Abdullah Ahmed Shah has approved the appointment of Anwar Ibrahim as the new Prime Minister. In the general elections held on Saturday last week, there was a crisis about forming a government once again and no party got an absolute majority. Since 2018, Malaysia has held three PM elections. The Sultan has announced that Anwar Ibrahim will be sworn in as Prime Minister on Thursday (November 24) evening.

According to the report, Anwar Ibrahim's becoming PM also matters because he believes in having better relations with all countries rather than the Islamic interest. Anwar Ibrahim is known as a reformist leader. Anwar Ibrahim becoming PM will help undermine the rise of right-wing politics in Malaysia. It is expected that this government will govern better than the previous government. Police have beefed up security across the country in view of the possibility of violence after Anwar Ibrahim became PM.

In October 2019, when the then Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad raised the Kashmir issue, Anwar Ibrahim said that Malaysia should resolve differences with India amicably. Diplomatic and business relations between the two countries were strained after Mahathir Mohamad's controversial statement on Kashmir. Mahathir had accused India of invading and occupying Jammu and Kashmir.
