Bangkok: On Friday, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha stated that his country intends to ensure that the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is open to all opportunities, integrated in all dimensions, and balanced in all areas by the year 2022.
According to sources, Prayut made the comments while delivering a keynote speech titled "Thailand's Priorities for APEC 2022" via teleconference at the APEC CEO Summit, calling it an opportunity to achieve a sustainable and balanced post-Covid future. In 2022, Thailand will host the APEC meetings. Priorities outlined during Thailand's APEC presidency will be relevant to APEC's current aims and operations, according to Prayut, and will be presented in a new paradigm.
He went on to say that the first priority is to facilitate trade and investment in a conducive ecosystem in order to promote the multilateral trading system and regional economic integration, drive the establishment of a new Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area in the post-Covid era, and respond to new trade-related issues such as climate change, public health, and inclusive development.
"The second is to renew regional connectivity, notably in the travel and tourist business," he said, while the third is to "advance sustainable and inclusive growth." "As part of its post-Covid economic recovery strategy, Thailand has embraced the Bio-Circular-Green Economic Model (BCG). The APEC 2022 priorities will also be driven by the BCG Economy Model "he said.
