Apollo Tyres has launched its new range of EV-specific tyres for the Indian market. The tyre manufacturing giant will provide a range of tyres that will cater to the passenger vehicles segment and the Apollo WAV range has been developed for electric two-wheelers. The Amperion tyres received a 5-star rating by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). 

The Amperion range of EV-specific tyres offers minimal rolling resistance, low noise, an electric tread pattern design and aerodynamic sidewalls. It will cater to the hatchback, compact SUV and sedan segments in India, such as the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona and other upcoming electric vehicles, according to TOI.

The 2-wheeler-focused WAV range features a specialised design, low rolling resistance, and lightweight and high traction to resist the initial torque produced by the electric motor. These will be suitable for the majority of high-performance electric scooters available in India, such as the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450X. Apollo Tyres plans to develop EV-specific tyres for motorcycles in the next phase, considering the extremely low number of products on sale in this category currently.

Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APMEA), Apollo Tyres Ltd President Satish Sharma, President, said, “Tyre design and manufacturing have always evolved along with the automobiles. Our teams have invested years of research to understand the changing dynamics and requirements of vehicles in the EV space to perfect the product that we are launching today. We are already in discussions with multiple OEMs in India to supply these tyres for the electric vehicles, and will be targeting the lion’s share in the EV space in India, in both PV and two-wheeler segments.”
