The case has been filed in the Supreme Court through a petition to extend the Central Government's self-reliant scheme for workers and laborers for the next one year. Under this plan, 8 crore workers and laborers and employees are being given free grain under the National Food Security Act. But recently, PM Narendra Modi has already announced to extend this plan till the end of November, in view of covid-19 and Teej-festivals of the coming month.

This petition has been filed by Harsh Mandar, Anjali Bhardwaj and Jagdeep Choker in the Supreme Court. In the petition filed, under the National Food Security Act, the Central Government has been ordered to continue the plan to provide free ration to migrant laborers for 1 year. It has also been told in the petition that the Supreme Court should order the Central and State Governments to create a system for the distribution of free rations through the Chief Secretaries of the states.

It should be known that under the Central Government's Public Distribution System (PDS) plan, 8 million poor migrant laborers will be given free ration every month. In this food item, every person will be given 5 kg of wheat-rice along with 1 kg of pulses free for every family. In the Corona period, this free food was previously announced only for May and June. But given the current situation of infection, no one is sleeping hungry, so this facility has been arranged for eight crore people.
