Apple growers protest across Himachal Pradesh, demand MSP for apples

Shimla:  Farmers under the banner of Sanyukt Kisan Manch held protest demonstrations across the hill state on Monday, over no response to their pending demands from the BJP government in Himachal Pradesh.

 Putting forward an e-point charter of demands to the government, agitated farmers have warned of intensifying their agitation if timely steps were not taken by the government to resolve their grievances. The Manch has determined that if the government does not implement the demands of farmers, it will join other organizations in the state to hold a state-wide demonstration on September 27. It is further said that they would hold more protests till the government would not implement its demands.
During the protest demonstrations, a demand letter was also submitted to the government through a memorandum. The demands included implementation of minimum support price (MSP) for all crops; implementation of Market Intervention Scheme on the lines of Kashmir,  and under the Market Intervention Scheme for apple, fixing of Rs 60, Rs 44 and Rs 24 per kg support price for apples of A, B and C grade, respectively. Leaders of farm organizations, members of zila parishads and block Samiti, pradhans and up-pradhans, panchayat members, and Rohru and Theog MLAs Mohan Lal Brakta of Congress and Rakesh Singha of CPM, respectively, participated in the protests.
