Lionel Messi admitted on Monday that he still doesn't fully understand the significance of Argentina's victory at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The captain of Argentina made the remarks at a celebration honouring the Albiceleste players and coaching staff for winning the nation's third World Cup trophy, which took place in Asuncion, Paraguay.

Yet with all the praise we are getting for being world champions, Messi claimed that the team is still not fully conscious of what it has accomplished.

The 35-year-old, who defeated France in the tournament's championship game with two goals and the Golden Ball for the best player, reaffirmed his ambition to play for his country at the international level.

"We are not considering what we did, but rather what is to come. This is satisfactory to me "The forward for Paris Saint-Germain said. "I have achieved nearly everything in football. So all I have to do is enjoy what I have left," he concluded.

The ceremony came four days after 80,000 supporters jammed into the Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires to watch Argentina's 2-0 friendly triumph against Panama, the team's first match since the World Cup final in December.

The Albiceleste will play another friendly against Curacao in Santiago del Estero on Tuesday.
