New Delhi: India has given a befitting reply to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for making "misleading" comments on the hijab dispute that began in Karnataka. India has clarified to the OIC that such issues are resolved in accordance with the constitutional framework and democratic ethos. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has categorically rejected the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)'s remarks about the alleged persecution of Muslims in the country. Along with this, the Ministry of External Affairs accused the OIC of having a communal mindset and spreading propaganda of hatred.
In fact, on the controversy over the dress code in some schools in Karnataka, the OIC's general secretary had asked India to ensure the safety and well-being of the Muslim community. To which External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi responded by saying, "The OIC is running a propaganda of hatred against India," adding that issues in India are resolved according to the constitutional framework and mechanism as well as democratic ethos and politics. The 57-member organisation of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) had expressed deep concern over the ongoing protests by Hindu organisations in India over the hijab dispute of Muslim women.
The OIC had condemned the ongoing protests against the hijab, saying it had reported the rise of alleged "Islamophobia" in India. A statement issued by the OIC said, "There are frequent attacks on Muslims and their religious places. The recent trend of anti-Muslim laws in various states and the increasing incidents of violence against Muslims by Hindutva organisations are indicative of the rise in Islamophobia," the Ministry of External Affairs said, adding that earlier too, the Ministry of External Affairs had advised the US, Pakistan and many people not to interfere in India's internal affairs.
