Commonwealth Games gold medalist weightlifter K.K. Sanjita Chanu will be awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award for 2018. The sportswoman was recently acquitted of doping charges by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) earlier this month. She won two Commonwealth Games gold medals in 2014 and 2018. This news was announced by the Indian Weightlifting Federation after the approval of the Sports Ministry.

In May 2020, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) suspended the recognition of the laboratory of the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). The sample of Indian weightlifter was tested positive for testosterone before the 2017 World Weightlifting Championships. After this, Sanjita Chanu was temporarily suspended on 15 May 2018. The WADA suspended the laboratory's accreditation, citing some 'nonconformities' in the handling of Indian weightlifters' test specimens by the USADA laboratory during analysis. IWLF was informed by WADA on May 28, 2020. In June 2020, Sanjita Chanu was acquitted of all doping charges.

Sanjita Chanu: 26-year-old Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu, born in Kapur district of Manipur, has been awarded the Commonwealth Games gold medal twice in 2014 (48 kg category) and 2018 (53 kg category).
