Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to visit Siachen today

New Delhi: After becoming the defence minister, Rajnath Singh will visit Siachen today. He will also be accompanied by senior officials of the Security Department besides army chief General Bipin Rawat. On Siachen Glacier, the world's highest war zone, Rajnath will review the security arrangements between India and Pakistan.

According to information, Northern Army commander Le. Gen. Ranbir Singh and General YK Joshi will inform the defence Minister about the security arrangements. After taking charge of office, Rajnath had met Rawat, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa and Navy chairman Admiral Karambir Singh. He then teamed up with Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra and three senior officials to learn about the work and project under his ministry.

Rajnath Singh was the home minister in the previous Modi government. This time his ministry has been given to BJP president Amit Shah. Before assuming office, Rajnath had visited the National War Memorial in Delhi and paid homage to the martyrs. He then asked the three army chiefs to prepare separate reports on the challenges and functioning of their forces. It will be reviewed at a meeting soon.
